Lent Series - Day 7 - Strength

Today's reflection is on...

Strength

Today is the seventh day of Lent.

This is entry number 8 in this series.

Today we look at the spiritual power of strength. Different than physical strength yet the same in definition, it is spiritually the power of resisting; it is courage, standing firm. It is holding on to the 'Lord of our being; the Christ' in times of challenges and when facing the temptation to throw in the towel and stray off of our positive path for spiritual living.

One way we can build the spiritual muscle of strength is to exercise it especially when we don't need it! We don't say "Holy cow, I have to move that piano in a few minutes I better run to the gym and work out first.' No, we build our strength through a consistent plan of developing our physical body and muscles through an exercise  routine so the strength is there when we need it.

The same is true for our spiritual power of strength. By acknowledging the indwelling Christ and walking in the consciousness of the Presence of God that is always available within us, by developing a consistent plan of daily prayer and meditation and by calling on strength to 'leave us not in temptation,' we build these spiritual muscles as reserve power that will serve us well in the midst of our greatest need.

In his classic work Keep a True Lent, Charles Fillmore offers daily words of inspiration to reflect on as we move ourselves towards our own resurrection day and the glorious celebration of Easter Sunday and all the newness of Life that it holds for all of us.

For those of you that would like to dive in deeper, the suggested Scripture reading for today is: Matthew 4:1-11
